Hornets Sting Warriors

The Charlotte Hornets blew out the Golden State Warriors, 87-69, in Las Vegas Summer League at Thomas and Mack Center on Wednesday evening.
Charlotte struck first and never looked back, preventing the Warriors from ever gaining the lead in the game. Relatively strong jump shooting helped the Hornets jump out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter. That advantage continued to build throughout, as Charlotte led by as much as 23 by the game’s end.
The Hornets’ starting frontcourt dominated, as Dwayne Bacon, Miles Bridges, and Willy Hernangomez each scored at least 17 points in the blowout win. Bridges, Charlotte’s 2018 first-round pick, added eight rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block to his strong scoring effort. Hernangomez, meanwhile, shot 7-of-11 from the floor en route to 18 points.
The Warriors were led by center Marcus Derrickson, who shot 8-of-15 en route to 20 points. Rion Brown added 13 points. No other Warrior scored in double figures, however, as the team shot just 36 percent in the wire-to-wire loss that sends them to a consolation game.
