This home-and-home series between the Pirates and Tigers moves to Pittsburgh for the final two games beginning on Wednesday at PNC Park. The Pirates were set to send Francisco Liriano to the mound, but he was scratched Tuesday afternoon due to right hamstring discomfort, and Ryan Vogelsong will instead make the start.
Shane Greene will take the mound for Detroit in his first start of the season. The right-hander came out of the bullpen in the 11th inning on Opening Day and picked up a one-inning save against the Marlins, setting down all three batters faced.
Three things to know about this game:
• Pirates catchers Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart are a combined 12-for-29 (.414) this season with one home run and six RBIs.
• Greene pitched eight scoreless innings in Pittsburgh nearly a year ago in his only career appearance against the Pirates. Greene allowed three hits in that start on April 14. Outfielder Matt Joyce is the only Pirate with multiple hits off Greene in his career, going 2-for-4 with a home run.
• Vogelsong pitched two innings of relief against the Reds on Friday, allowing two runs (one earned) over two innings, but he recorded the win. He last started a game on Sept. 3, 2015, allowing seven earned runs over three-plus innings while with the Giants against the Rockies.
