Left-hander Danny Duffy will take the mound for the Royals against the Twins in the home opener for Minnesota on Monday. Right-hander Trevor May makes his first start of the season. Duffy is coming off a so-so outing vs. the White Sox (five innings, five runs, five strikeouts).
Things to know about this game
• Duffy is 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA in four career games at Target Field. Duffy has no explanation for his success there. "Just a coincidence, I'm guessing," he said. "I do like the park. It's really nice." This will be the first time Duffy will start in a team's home opener. "I just got to take the pill and throw it and keep it rolling for us," he said.
• The Royals were 11-8 against the Twins last year and just 5-5 at Target Field.
• May made one start last year against the Royals, and it didn't go very well. He gave up seven hits and three runs, and also walked four hitters before leaving after 4 2/3 innings. The Twins lost, 6-4.
