Pirates, Cole open at home against Tigers, Sanchez

The Tigers and Pirates each make their Interleague Play debut Monday, kicking off a three-game series in Pittsburgh. Anibal Sanchez gets things going on the mound for the Tigers. Gerrit Cole gets the start for the Pirates, who are playing their home opener.
Things to know about this game
• The Pirates are 75-58 all-time in home openers, dating back to 1882. Last year, they defeated the Chicago Cubs 1-0, snapping a streak of three consecutive home opener losses.
• Last year, in Interleague Play, the Tigers went 12-8 against the National League. The Pirates went 11-9 against the American League. The two teams played each other four times in 2014 and split the series.
• The Pirates offense led the MLB in total strikeouts and strikeout percentage through the first five games of the season. Sanchez struck out six batters in 6 1/3 innings in his 2015 debut, and finished third in the MLB in K/9 in 2013.
