Grandal homers, but Inciarte hits walk-off single in 10th
Ender Inciarte's one-out single in the 10th inning helped the D-backs walk-off the Dodgers, 4-3, on Friday night in the first of a three-game series at Chase Field.
The winning rally started when pinch-hitter Cliff Pennington drew a one-out walk from J.P. Howell (0-1), advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third base. After a walk to A.J. Pollock, Inciarte delivered a grounder down the first-base line. More >
"I was just trying to hit the ball hard," Inciarte said. "He's a sinker guy so it's not a good idea to be trying to hit fly balls against him so I was trying to hit the ball hard and I hit it down the first-base line and it worked for us."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED Goldy goes yard: Goldschmidt hit his first home run of the year in the third when he smacked a three-run homer off Brett Anderson that landed in the pool area beyond the wall in right-center.
On the board: Grandal was 0-for-6 until he homered to center field with two out in the fourth inning. He's now 3-for-8 lifetime against Chase Anderson, with all three hits home runs. Grandal was acquired to take playing time fromA.J. Ellis because of his expected run production.
First for Inciarte: The game-winning hit by Inciarte was the first walk-off hit of his career.
Cooling off A-Gon: Adrian Gonzalez, after walloping five homers in the first three games, singled and walked twice before Arizona snapped his streak of reaching base safely at 10 plate appearances. He grounded out to the left side of a defensive shift in the eighth inning and bounced into a 3-6-3 double play in the 10th.
