Before beginning their pregame tribute to lost legend Ernie Banks, the Cubs dedicated a few moments on Sunday night to remember Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras, who, along with his girlfriend, was killed in an Oct. 26 car accident in the Dominican Republic.
The tribute came two days after the Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate held a moment of silence for the organization's former top prospect before an exhibition game between the Cardinals and the Redbirds. The Cardinals have plans to honor Taveras prior to their home opener on April 13.
Players and uniformed staff, wearing their regular-season jerseys for the first time, also debuted the "OT" arm patch that will be affixed to the team's uniforms all year. The patch was not sewn onto the jerseys the Cardinals wore during Spring Training.
