Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta flirted with no-hitters twice against the Reds last season, something that club will certainly be working to avoid on Tuesday at Wrigley Field. Like Arrieta, Cincinnati right-hander Anthony DeSclafani will be making his second start of the season.
Things to know about this game:
• Arrieta, who threw seven scoreless innings in his first start of 2015 vs. the Cardinals on Wednesday, was 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA vs. the Reds last season. He took no-hitters into the seventh inning twice. He tossed a complete-game one-hitter with a career-high 13 strikeouts vs. Cincinnati on Sept. 16.
• The Reds expect to have center fielder and leadoff hitter Billy Hamilton back in the starting lineup on Tuesday. Hamilton did not start on Monday because of a sore left index finger.
• Reds All-Star catcher Devin Mesoraco is day to day with discomfort in his left hip. Mesoraco underwent a MRI exam on Monday in Cincinnati.
