After Iowa State raced out to an early 14-0 lead, North Dakota State scored 34 unanswered points to defeat Iowa State, 34-14, in the season opener at Jack Trice Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Bison racked up 503 yards on offense en route to their 25th consecutive victory.
Bison running back John Crockett ran for 138 yards and three touchdowns and Carson Wentz finished the game 18-for-28 for 204 yards. Chase Morlock added 81 yards and a touchdown for the Bison.
Keys of the Game
Iowa State rolled out to a 14-0 lead following Wimberly’s second touchdown of the game, but the Bison immediately responded. On NDSU’s first play from scrimmage after falling behind by two touchdowns, John Crockett took the handoff and took it 80 yards for the touchdown.
The quick response, coupled with injuries to Tom Farniok and Quenton Bundrage that helped stall the Cyclone offense, set the Bison on a path to 34 unanswered points.
Offensive Players of Note...
Aaron Wimberly matched a career high with two touchdowns, both of which were on the ground. Wimberly was only able to pick up 38 yards for the Cyclones, who finished with 102 yards on 26 carries.
Sam Richardson scampered for 58 yards on the ground and was 20-of-31 for 151 yards passing.
Dondre Daley and DeVondrick Nealy led the Cyclones with five catches each.
Defensive Players of Note...
Sophomore defensive back Nigel Tribune led the defense with a career-high 11 tackles. Kamari Syrie and Jevohn Miller each had nine stops.

*Allen Lazard’s first career catch was good for 48 yards.
*Aaron Wimberly recorded his second career multi-TD game (Texas, 2013). This is his first game with two rushing TDs.
*Saturday’s game was a sellout (54,800). It marked the 20th consecutive game with 50,000 fans or more at Jack Trice Stadium.
Iowa State stays home next Saturday to host Kansas State at Jack Trice Stadium in the Big 12 opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Fox Sports 1.
